Missouri's First Black-Owned Brewery
Historic 18th & Vine Jazz DistrictWhile working at Boulevard Brewing Co., Kemet’s creative drive boiled over. Driven by music and culture, he snuck a camera crew directly into the brewhouse to film a rogue music video. Corporate brass was far from amused, and he was abruptly fired.
That termination ignited a fierce, unshakeable determination: to one day build his own brewhouse—a space where art rules supreme, music lives in the architecture, and community takes center stage.
Transforming that fire into movement, Kemet joined forces with co-founders Woodie Bonds Jr. and Elliott Ivinson to revive a 150-year-old historic stone building in Kansas City’s 18th & Vine Jazz District. Today, Vine Street Brewing Co. stands as Missouri's first Black-owned craft brewery and a premier Midwestern cultural landmark.
